In-play betting takes place while the event is underway. Quotes move based on unfolding play, so an displayed price may no longer be available when the bookmaker receives the instruction.

Why live odds move and markets suspend
Operators use sports data to update odds, suspend markets and settle bets. The UK Gambling Commission highlights that timely information and access to sports data affect the fairness and integrity of in-play markets. Official in-play guidance ↗
| Event moment | Possible operator response | Player decision |
|---|---|---|
| Goal or penalty | Suspend or reprice market | Check accepted odds, not last screen quote |
| Game interruption | Pause an affected market | Read postponement and void rules |
| Late price change | Reject or reoffer a wager | Do not assume a queued bet was accepted |
Bet placed is not always bet accepted
An on-screen selection is not proof that the bookmaker accepted a bet at that price. Confirmation should identify the accepted market, stake and odds. If the selection remains pending, avoid assuming it will settle as a valid bet.
Illustrative delayed-acceptance example
| Step | Timeline example | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Selection | Quote 2.10 appears | Not yet binding |
| Submit | Odds move to 1.95 during network delay | Operator may change or reject |
| Acceptance | Confirmation shows accepted 1.95 | This accepted price governs if terms allow |

Live streaming is not the same as zero latency
Broadcast, event feed and sportsbook price updates can differ in timing. Do not infer an advantage from watching a stream, and always read event-status, bet-acceptance and void conditions in the actual sportsbook. Regulator explanation ↗
Live betting alternatives: when to choose pre-match instead
Pre-match markets may allow more time to evaluate injuries, teams and odds; they are not inherently profitable. Consult our sportsbook overview and esports settlement guide for different risk types.
