Blackjack is a card game in which decisions interact with the table’s specific rules. Two games called blackjack can have materially different expected results when their payout, deck and dealer rules differ.
Blackjack 3:2 versus 6:5 payouts
A natural blackjack payout of 3:2 returns winnings equal to 1.5 times the stake, while a 6:5 payout returns winnings equal to 1.2 times the stake. On a £10 bet, the respective win amounts are £15 and £12, excluding return of the original stake. These are arithmetic examples rather than game-specific Razed terms.
| Natural blackjack rule | Win on £10 stake | Key consequence |
|---|---|---|
| 3:2 | £15 | Larger natural payout |
| 6:5 | £12 | £3 less per equal natural win |

Dealer stands or hits soft 17
A soft 17 is a hand total of 17 containing an ace counted as 11. Some blackjack tables require the dealer to stand; others require a hit. This changes the dealer outcome distribution and is a reason to inspect rules before applying any generic strategy chart.
What split, double and surrender rules change
- Splitting creates separate hands after eligible matching cards; permitted re-splits vary.
- Doubling increases exposure in exchange for receiving a restricted additional card under the table rules.
- Surrender, if offered, ends a hand with a partial stake loss; availability and timing vary.
- Insurance is a separate side wager and should not be confused with the payout on a natural blackjack.
No rule can eliminate the risk of losing a hand or an entire bankroll.
